Muscle Spasms and Trigger Points
Trigger points are known areas which spasm within a muscle. These tight spots may also be known as knots in your muscles. When pressed they can be very tender and may even refer pain to other areas of the body. They can even mimic symptoms of more serious conditions such as Sciatica and can also be the cause of some headaches. The cause of trigger point formation is unknown but it may be overuse, stress, poor posture, or injury that can make them worse. If there is dysfunction in your muscles they will often test weak when specifically tested.
